From Concept to Building

Although you won’t see them all, there are some really important steps we’ll follow to make sure your home is exactly what you wanted. It also means we can all enjoy the process of building your home.

Getting your home built is meant to be exciting, with lots of decisions, lots of involvement and communication. It’s meant to be busy. But it’s not meant to be stressful.

So having a real process to follow means we can all enjoy the choices, options, stages and changes that are part of a great building experience… knowing that the structure of this process is helping us all stay on track and without stress.

Concept

This is where you share your concept or vision and rough budgets. We visit the site and your notes and ideas, along with the plans you might have. This is about understanding what you need and want. We do a lot of listening, and a little talking.

Options

Here, we do more talking. We’ve reviewed your plans and the site and we know what you want. If there are opportunities to give you more of what you want in either prestige or value, we share them with you. At the end of it is an agreed scope that we’ll turn into a plan.

Plans

The construction plans are the key documents we’re all working to. They outline what we’re doing and what you’ll get. At this point quoting is completed and the timeline is set. Once final selections and quote is finalised the contract is signed off, along with completed construction plans.

Start

The first actions begin, including scheduling from us, deposit from you, materials ordered and scheduled and approvals lodged. Lots of paperwork.

Site

The site is prepped, leveled and it’s time to dig the footings. Foundations are completed.

Slab

Your site gets the plumbing pipes laid, foundations formed and slab formed (if your home is on a slab). If you have children, we enjoy organising a special safe area for them to watch this from. It’s fun seeing the slab go down. When we’re ready, the materials for the framing arrive…

Frame

The framing stage is where we build the frame and roof trusses. These are the first time your home starts to make real sense. You can see where the rooms will be, what the shape of the roof line will be. Most of the windows will go in, here, too.

Roof

We build the roof, next, because it helps protect the frames and create storage for receiving what we need for the next stages. With all of these stages, you’re welcome to visit at any stage. But once each stage is complete, we send a special note to let you know, in case you want to post pictures of it.

External Cladding

Your external cladding is installed next. Wether it is weatherboard, brick or brick/hebel rendered. Bring your camera! When the walls are up, we’re ready to accept materials for the next stages.

Rough-In

The rough in means all the electrical and plumbing work that will be in the walls. If you’re having a smart home built, much of it happens, here.

Internal Walls

Once the rough-in work is done, we sheet the internal walls, and it’ll really start to look like a home ‘inside’ rather than just outside. The rooms and living spaces will look real and you’ll be able to use your imagination to picture ‘living’ here.

Waterproofing

Waterproofing and tiling come next, so your wet areas start to look great.

Internal Mouldings

By this stage, the home is looking good, and we’re ready to install the skirting, architraves, the door jams, doors and the kitchen. These details are often the first real example of your decoration choices being applied, so it’s another good camera moment.

Lock-Up

Now we’re ready for the external doors and garage doors. Your home is secured.

Fit-Out

Final electrical and plumbing fit-out and installation. All appliances are installed. Floor and window coverings are completed. Painters complete their work.

Practical Completion

This is the “check” stage. We all need to conduct one last big check, together. Ensure you’re satisfied 100% and loving everything about your new build.

Handover

Now we’re ready to hand over. The works are all complete, transactionally we’re wrapped up, and you’ll get the keys to your home and a Wildman Home Pack will be given to you. This has all the paperwork we’ve gathered to help you look after it, tips, maintenance ideas, specials we’ve secured for our clients and a surprise we NEVER reveal til you get it.

Thank you

The last thing we do is ask you for a photo in front of your home, or sometimes a short video. We want to collect these as a record of what we’ve done. That small gesture from you goes a long way to helping us build for others in the future.
